I was born and raised in Alaska. I grew up spending my days wandering the forests, mountains, and beaches of south central Alaska, which instilled in me a great awe of the wild. My roots to and love for this amazing land run deep, and I pour that passion into every piece I create.
I apprenticed under two of the most talented chainsaw carvers in the country, Jarrett Dahl and Scott Hanson. I also trained in hand carving in the UK by the renowned wood carver Glyn Mould.
I now have carvings all over the United States and several in the U.K. My largest carving, Horse and Hound, sits within the small village of Marholm, England.
In 2018 I competed and placed first in the Seldovia Craft invitational Chainsaw Carving Competition with my carving, The Long Haul, inspired by the working dogs of the world.
Every tree has a story to tell, that continues past it's life. I do my best to tell that story for each tree I carve.
I started my business in 2018 after a winter storm decimated 80% of the trees surrounding my family’s off grid cabin on the shores of Katchemak Bay near the small fishing village of Seldovia. I spent an entire summer carving the wind felled trees and thus began Alaska Wildwood. Many of my pieces are still carved from those trees.
Most of the wood I carve was naturally felled by wind and spruce beetle. I do my best to use every piece of wood to its fullest potential, including turning my off cuts into smaller wall hangings. The saw dust I create is used as land fill and compost. The wood scraps becomes firewood to help heat homes. I have transitioned to primarily electric saws and use biodegradable oil to help in the effort of lowering emissions. What's more, for every tree I carve, I plant another.
